YARNS
Knowledge
Yarn count calculation and conversion For fancy yarn production, Manufacturers will use all kinds of fibers and different material yarns to produce fancy yarn, but different material yarns will have different types of yarn count, how to get right yarn count for fancy yarn, we have to know how to calculate and convert yarn count.

## What is Yarn Count?

According to Textile Institute, ‘Count is a number indicating the mass per unit length or the length per unit mass of yarn.’’

## Types of Yarn Count

It is classified into two.
1.    Direct count system - Tex, Denier, pounds per spindle.
2.    Indirect count system – Metric count(Nm), English count(Ne), worsted.
For yarn production, Metric count (Nm), English count(Ne),Denier(D),Tex are frequently used.

## Yarn Count Calculation Formula

Ne (English Count): The number of hanks 840yds per pound is known as English yarn count.
1 Ne = 1 Hank/ lb

Nm (Metric Count): It is defined as the number of hank (1000m) per kg.
1 Nm = 1 Km/ kg

Denier: The number or count in the denier system is weight in grains of 9000m.
1 Denier = 1g/ 9000m

Tex: The weight in grams of 1000m is known as tex count.
1 Tex = 1g/ 1000m

## Yarn Count Conversion Table

From the yarn count conversion table we can convert each of the count either direct or indirect from one to another count.

 Ne Nm Tex Grex Denier Ne= 1xNe 0.5905xNm 590.5/Tex 5905/Grex 5315/Den Nm= 1.693xNe 1xNm 1000/Tex 10,000/Grex 9000/Den Tex= 590.5/Ne 1000/Nm 1xTex 0.1xGrex 0.111xDen Grex= 5905/Ne 10,000/Nm 10xTex 1xGrex 1.111xDen Denier= 5315/Ne 9000/Nm 9xTex 0.9xGrex 1xDen

## Yarn Count Conversion Examples

Example 1: If the metric count is 50Nm then what will be the English count (Ne)?

Form the count conversion table, we know that Ne=0.5905 X Nm
So English count will be Ne=0.5905 X 50=30
Ans. 50Nm= 30Ne

Example 2: If the English cotton count is 30Ne, then what will be the Tex count?

From the count conversion table we know that Tex count = 590.5/Ne
So Tex count will be Tex=590.5/30=19.6
Ans. 30Ne=19.6Tex
